Trnava University

I’m Associate Professor of Education at Trnava University in Trnava (Slovakia) and Tomáš Baťa University in Zlin (Czech Republic). My university training in early childhood education and philosophy led my interest into studying both theoretical and practical implications of early literacy development. My research interest concerns implementation of emerging literacy and Vygotskian perspective into early childhood programs and the role of literacy in cultural development, especially in the digital era. I was involved in developing the national early literacy curriculum for preschools in Slovakia (in force since 2016), I’m co-author of several practical guidelines for its implementation (for The National Institute for Education and The Methodology and Pedagogy Centre) and author of dozens of teaching plans and worksheets for early literacy development in kindergartens. Currently, in field of empirical research, I’m part of a comparative research study evaluating the effects of two models of early literacy instruction in preschool education (one built on phonic, bottom up model and one on emergent literacy holistic approach), on development of early literacy skills, where I’m responsible for evaluating various aspects of narrative development of children. Internationally, I’m involved in the Federation of European Literacy Associations (FELA) and a member of the International Literacy Association (ILA).
